Too late!

Like its featured art and design, Klectar ended up being a limited edition whose run finally came to an end.

Thanks to all the artists and members who signed up to take part.

If you’re interested in buying art and design on line, I can recommend these two great online venues:

Reporting tools added; words smithed.

The team at Neutron Creations have been busy fixing bug and building some simple reporting tools to help us keep track of how the site’s working.

Meanwhile we’ve been crafting copy to fill up the web site pages that need some text: help pages, FAQs, dull-but-important stuff like privacy policies and terms and conditions.

We’re using 37 Signals’ popular ‘Basecamp’ tool to keep track of the work, and manage communications between us: most of the copy’s now done. Just those terms and conditions to finish off:

We’ve a few bits of design to finish off too, and the final piece of our admin tools to enable us to manage members’ accounts.

Getting there!

Listing Management Process Revamped

We’ve revamped the way that we manage the process of setting which items get sold on which days, to make it a little simpler to change the schedule and move pieces around.

There’s still a few bugs here or there to iron out and a some tweaks we’d like to make to the design, but otherwise our list of things needing to get finished is getting shorter. Here’s what’s left before the site’s ready for launch:

  • Completing the ‘static’ pages like help, ‘About Klectar’ and dull but important stuff like Terms and Conditions
  • Some simple reporting, so we can see how many people have signed-up, who’s sold what: basically how we’re doing.
  • Template designs for our newsletters and our online ads that we’re going to use to promote the site.

Getting there slowly!

Checkout working, Create Piece bug fixed

Another week and more progress. The guys at Neutron Creations have fixed a bug we’d encountered with the Create Piece tool, so we’re now able to put pieces ready for sale on Klectar, as well as sellers, and to schedule the pieces for sale (although we want to make some changes to this part to make it easier to manage future pieces).

Checkout and payment has also been completed. We’re utilising PayPal’s innovative chained payments system (part of their adaptive payments suite), designed with marketplaces like ours in mind: it lets us pass on payment to the artist/ designer and take out our commission all in one step: clever.

So, aside from a few bits of styling, the front-end is almost finished. There’s still a little work to do on the back-end admin tools: we need to add some simple reporting, revamp the tool to manage the schedule of pieces and build a few tools to administer user accounts. In parallel we’re working on some email templates and banner designs ready to get users to the site.

More news next week.

Klectar’s coming soon …

It’s been a little longer coming than I’d have liked, but we’re getting there. Ben and Marc from Neutron Creations have been busy working on some of the back-end tools to complement Hector’s tidy design work. Serena and Sophie have found us some great artists and designers to get us off the ground. Adam’s been offering his usual sage advice on marketing. We’ve still a little bit to do, but I can start to see Klectar coming to life.

Keep in touch with what’s going on right here, or on Facebook or Twitter.
